Picked up my pkg from UPS yesterday morning & rushed home to unpack it - inside was my Cabela's backordered 1858 Remington .44, 5 1/2" 'Sheriff's Model". Made by Pietta, the fit & finish is outstanding & what little fault I can find with it can be easily corrected or even overlooked - especially for the sale price & the free shipping.

Right now, it's a pile of parts atop the washing machine deck & I'm giving the wood a proper gazillion applications of hand rubbed oil finish. I'll install the shiney Ampco nipples & once reassembled, I'll post some pics.

Looks kinda like this, only NICER:

Firearm Gun Trigger Ranged weapon Revolver

It's REALLY PURTY!

The 6" .36 Navy model I ordered first is apparently still on the rowboat entoute from Italy.

They are good looking revolvers. Fit and finish is good except the shiny grips. I noticed they did go up in price some since I bought mine last year.
Looks like they just lightly stained the walnut grips before coating it all with packing oil. I wiped it all down & took off the grips first thing & rubbed them down with 0000 steel wool. Got them sitting on a towel on the couch soaking in my favorite blend of Linseed + Tung + Walnut oils & a little magic 'petroleum distillates' & a few drops of Japan Drier (keeps the walnut oil from gumming).

Every day I wipe on a coat, let it sit for about an hour, then rub it in & wipe off the excess.

After only about 4 applications, they're already getting a nice hand-rubbed satin sheen. It's a lot of work, but it makes the otherwise ordinary wood look a little nicer.

$229 with free shipping for mine from Cabelas beats about everyone else selling them.
