I have this M39 that was assembled on an Izhevsk 1896 receiver. The WN stamped on the side of the receiver flat is noted on various sites, but seems to be an unknown mark. Any up to date info here in surplus rifle Mecca? I've been away for a year or two because of lack of gun-buying funds, but now I'm creeping back, and so that means I come home to the forums here as well.

I do wonder if this mark is Austro-Hungarian, perhaps a stamp indicating it passed through Wien or Wiener-Neustadt when captured or acquired around WWI? Mere speculation, it has no other signs of Austria-Hungary.

Thoughts?
