Can anyone point me in the direction of a good, detailed history of the Winchester Model 63 rifle? My mother's neighbor has one in beautiful condition with a 1930s vintage Weaver 2.5x scope. He told me his father bought it before sometime before WW2 for squirrel hunting.

I can testify that the Model 63 is a great squirrel rifle. I have one with a very dense walnut stock, so the rifle is naturally light in the muzzle - perfect for taking Skippy out of the top of a tree.

A few facts you might already have from a 1980 Modern Gun Value book.Introduced in 1933,discontinued in 1958. Had a 23 inch BBL.Early series available with 20 inch BBL. It was still listed in the 1959 Shooters Bible for $79.45.

mariko - yup, I've already gleaned that. What I need is detailed info who who developed it, production numbers, etc.
