Picked up an 1890 second model back section (stock, crescent buttplate, trigger guard assembly) with the scriptive letter "S" stamped neatly in the wood between the upper & lower tang. This "S" is also neatly engraved in old style script on the crescent buttplate.
Any ideas?? Maybe a length of stock marking??

Thanks for your help.
