I didn't bid on it, because I didn't have the expendable cash, but I think that this one slipped by. I can't for the life of me remember who's SN that is, but I know he's a gunboards guy. I'd like to see more pics of it if possible.

Mismatched bolt, cracked handguard, crack in stock at receiver tang. I am sure lots of folks saw it; the seller was completely honest in his description of condition issues. The buyer got a fair deal but not a steal.

Consider the rarity of a Chinese marked M91 compared to, say, an M28 or even an M24. I'm not gonna say it was worth two or three times what it brought. But I will say I think it was underappreciated.

The markings are Japanese, not Chinese. The brands translate "Hosei University", which is located in Tokyo.

I saw it but it's not my cup of tea. I want somewhat the inverse, a Finn marked Arisaka. I would think the Japanese collectors would find this piece the most interesting.

bones92 pointed it out to me during the last go around. I mentioned it to seinen since he's collecting data on them. He agreed with my assessment that it was a little on the high side. We'll probably all regret it in a few years though. seinen sure doesn't need me to confirm his assessment, but it is Japanese with the same marks as the one I recently bought from him.

I got it for two reasons first is it's the only one I've come across, second my wife is collecting some arisakas and she thought it would be a nice piece to "connect" the two types of rifles. So when the wife says buy, I say yes dear.

Good to see it go into a collectors hands and not bubbas, but once it went past $100 it would probly be out of his range anyway. Congrats!

I agree - this rifle is a nice compliment to your growing Arisaka collection. This M91 variant is poorly documented and under-appreciated. Like Ted says, it may be a bit high in price now, but not in a few years. Like a fellow Japanese collector often remarks: "I didn't pay too much for that rifle, I just bought it a little too soon."

Personally, if I had a bunch of my holes filled, I would have scooped it up in a heartbeat. I've only seen two or three over all 7 years I've been collecting. I think, that as more people fill their collections as well, the price will go up greater.

These rifles that bridge acrossed several categories of collecting are tougher to aquire due to the greater numbers of people seeking them. And in turn, in my opinion, rise quicker in value. Same with SA marked Swedish rifles that appeal to most Swedish, Mauser, and Finnish rifle collectors. NEW and Remington M91's that appeal to both US and Mosin collectors. Just for a few examples.

I abide this rule myself. I don't know why other than I'd like to think someone would do the same for me. It just seems like the right thing to do.
