It looks like Classic Arms, SOG, and J&G are the only ones with Rom TTs right now. All about the same price except J&G only has one mag. SOG calls theirs VG, while Classic says that theirs are like new.
Has anyone purchased from either company lately, and could share their experience? I have ordered from both in the past, but the Swiss rifles I bought from Classic were less than I expected. Anything I have bought from SOG and wasn't happy with they have replaced cheerfully. I'd just like to get a really nice Rom....... since I can't find a Polish TT.
Thanks for your help.

CFS our board sponsor also has them. I ordered one last night so i am guessing it ships out today and will be at my door by the end of the week. I bought my only internet purchase FFL-01 firearm from CFS and got it transferred at a local FFL. They have given me absolutely no problems every time i have ordered there. It's $209, so $10 more for an extra mag versus J&G, i can't see SOG cause they don't have my ffl-03, and Classic is $219. CFS is probably a good place to get it.

Classic Romanian Tokarev

Ordered one from Classic on Monday afternoon before Thanksgiving; it arrived two days later. A crate of their Bulgarian 7.62x25 arrived today. Pretty fast shipping, I'd say.

As to condition, I didn't ask for hand pick, and didn't get it. Holster is worn out, mouldy, and missing one of the two steel shoulder strap loops, lanyard is missing the steel clip, and the pistol doesn't have the original firing-pin-retaining pin. Instead there's a makeshift pin that was just held in by the dirt, and the slide is ground down at each end of the pin (picture attached), maybe to get the old pin out. The substitute pin falls out when the hammer is down, so I need to stick in a tight roll pin to replace it before I can shoot it.

The makeshift firing-pin-retaining pin is a little larger diameter than the original, which results in another interesting feature: the firing pin sticks out a little from the breech. Maybe I'll widen the notch in the firing pin a little to fix that. (I hate it when "slam fire" happens.)

In short, I got fast service, a good price, and a little bad luck on the gun this time. But that's half the fun of collecting surplus.

By the way, the "safety" they had to add on to please our ignorant congress is really ugly, and wouldn't move at first. I filed down the bump between the detents to let it move. It has two important functions: block the trigger, and mess up the appearance.

man, I would have sent that back.....The fireing pin issue would have done it. Finish is one thing, mechanical issues another. But still, thank you for saving another of these fine pistols from a furnace..... Who knows, maybe someday it will return the favor and save your life.

does that say 1962 as the date? I thought they didn't make these that long? Wonder how late they made them?
Ammo was made until the 80's... so it wouldn't surprise me if they lasted until late. Actually, what arms did the romanians use in 9x18? I am aware of makarovs for bulgaria, russia and east germany, CZ-82 for the czechs, those non-makarov makarovs in hungary and poland... maybe did the romanians use them well up until very recently? If not, what 9x18 arm did they adopt?

I ordered one from SOG and I was very happy with what I got. Don't have a camera working right now, but it looks either new or freshly reworked. I think it is original, but I know nothing about these. Shipping was within a few days with a case of ammo for it. I don't know if I got lucky or if they are all this nice. I also order a CZ 52. This one is mechanically excellent, but the finish is worn and faded. But at the money they charged I wasn't upset. What in this day and age can one expect for just over $100? Good luck on finding what your looking for. Cheers, John.

It is my understanding that the Russians are still manufacturing 7.62x25, or rather, restarted production after some years hiatus. The current Russian service pistol is 9x19 NATO caliber, but demands to provide superior personal armor penetration have revved up interest in 7.62 again.

Unless laws are loosened, we won't see any Russian surplus ammo in this caliber tho, I don't believe.

AIM is a good place to look for Tok's. Ammo, too.

Do you know how much the shipping was for your pistol? I noticed some dealers (J&G and I think SOG to) are shipping C&R pistols to C&R's via 2nd day air for around $22. Centerfires site say next day air only. Thus I was wondering the cost. I prefer to order one from them since they are a sponsor and I've always been pleased with what I've received from them in the past but if the shipping is way high I might order one from J&G and buy some extra mags from AIM since they have them so cheap.

I just purchased a Romanian Tokarev from SOG at 120. They said that it was VG and I think it was a bit better. It came with a spare mag, cleaning rod, great holster and lanyard. Tiniest bit of holster wear near the muzzle which I covered with cold blue. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of cosmolene on everything. To clean the spare mag (wrapped in cosmolene and paper) I finally used brake cleaning spray. The pistol itself also had a lot of cosmo. At the range I shot Wolf, S&B, Romanian arsenal and Czech arsenal without any problems and right on target.

Well, it will hopefully be delivered shortly so i will tell you what the invoice says.

How behind is AIM? I want to get mags and two tins of ammo to go with mine.

They're still really behind according to the message on their site. It says that today they're filling orders from November 15th.

Porter Rockwell; I would definitely send that one back. Classic advertises "like new" condition in appearance and function, which yours is far from. CFS calls theirs "refinished", no claim on mechanical/functional refurbishment, which sounds like the case.
I last ordered 2 "excellent" Swiss rifles from Classic, which they weren't, and I wish now that I had complained. That was an appearance problem; yours sounds like a safety problem.

TTC from Classic

Does that say 1962 as the date?
It's 1952.

I was annoyed that it wasn't in good working order when it came from Classic, but it made a nice amateur gunsmith project. The retaining pin hole was barely smaller than 1/8 inch, so I drilled it out to 1/8 inch, filed the firing pin notch a little to allow for a wider pin and eliminate protrusion from the breech with hammer up, and cut a 1/8 x 1-inch roll pin (from Lowe's) to fit. (A nominal 1/8-inch roll pin fits nicely in a 1/8-inch hole.)

Next time Classic has something I want, I think I'll call and tell them about it, and expect better results.

Speaking of safety, all this reminds me of what our old friend "Orchidhunter" used to say, before they kicked him off the board for making a big to-do about the obvious.

who knows, maybe the gun will serve you well now that you served IT. I believe tokarevs are great, very great pistols. I have had great luck with my two.

Just need more ammo. And mags.
At the same time, their are other things I want to invest in. I am also a helmet collector, and am tryingto pick up a dutch peacekeepers helmet from the bosnian wars. Don't seem to be very many out there.

Porter, I'd ship it back, too.

Very nicely, but tell them they could'a done better, and probably need to part that one out.

Your call.

Ruskie: Really interesting collection. I have a few here but pretty much we put bullets thru them just to see what gives.

Do you have a pic of your collection? If sized small {remote, outdated, limping-along dialup is all we can get here...} I'd love to see it. If so, PM me and I'll respond with my email address.

Range Report

Thanks for the advice; I'd ship it back too if shipping were cheap. But it's up and running, and works nicely.

This pistol is strikingly different from any other I have fired. The slide cycles so slowly that I can see and feel it returning to battery. I have nine other types of auto pistols, some modern and some relics; in each of them the slide cycles so fast as to be practically imperceptible. The TTC goes "boom", the casing flies a different way every time, and then the slide drops back.

I wonder if the old spring is too soft.

Anyway, it shoots straight and is really fun. It sounds like a rifle (!!) and there's a wonderful muzzle blast, but the recoil is modest. The target below is from 30 feet without trying real hard to hold on the bull's eye. (Just to be honest, there's one outlier under the pistol!)

I got a case of the evil Bulgarian ammo dated 53 with the pistol. Fired 30 rounds today and every one went "boom". (This stuff doesn't just "bang".) At least ten of them split at the neck, but none blew up in my face. :D
