Often erroneously refered to as an "Arctic Mauser" due to the winter trigger guard

Postwar czechoslovak rifle 98k called P18. best regards,Andy
Andy, I am curious what this "P18" designation signifies? Typically rifle model names belay information about their adoption date, ie, Gewehr 98= rifle of 1898, Vz.24=model 1924, etc. P18 does not fit any arms nomenclature in the usual sense.

On another note, the OP rifle has a very nice armorer/depot handguard. Anytime one sees a factory code, in this case 237 (Lubecker) it signifies a part made for use outside of the factory assembly line. If it were unnumbered internally, it would be quite a prize IMO, I'd likely swap it out for anothe laminate HG and keep the 237 piece for a 98k restoration.
