What does AVS-36 look like?

Great photos and disassembly close-ups! Thanks for posting that.
BTW, it looks like ol' Sergei Simonov already had the receiver latch, bolt-handle, and some other features worked out that are common to the anti-tank rifle he designed and the later SKS carbine, no? The rest of it sure is different though...

It is a 1935 pattern AVS trial rifle with a later pattern production magazine. It should have the open sided mag. Deko or not its a gem.

Okay, I'm confused, why's there that notch in the side of the magazine? Is it part of the bolt-hold open mechanism, somehow involved with that sliding dustcover-ish thing on the right side?

Also, neat how it somewhat resembles the inner workings of the Vz-58, as well as lays the basis for the SKS-45 and has features of the DP-28 and SVT as well.
