You can get a Chinese T53 (M44) for $35 plus shipping from Omega Arms. Or at least you could when I bought from them last year.

They will be in NRA "fair" condition. Worn, not pretty, but shootable.

From what I have seen, Carcanos and M39's have starting prices close to $275, and go up from there. And that is not just the SA stamped Carcanos, either.

I believe an M44 stock is correct for many M38's.
