What can you tell me about this German Helmet?

Hello,

My grandfather collected some WWII memorabilia, I inherited this German Helmet. I think it looks authentic, except the Eagle sticker looks a bit new. He has a sticky on the inside that says "German Army Helmet Pre 1943 Type, Est value 1968 $15 Dollars.

I would never get rid of it, just looking to see if it is authentic.

Thanks!

original helmet shell, with possibly original liner and post war chinstrap, decals, etc applied. approx. value $200, worthless to true collector- collector value was killed by addition of fake decals
Post better pictures of the other helmet on the Japanese forum, that one is probably worth considerably more
Thanks all! should I attempt to remove the fake stickers?
I'd leave it alone, 75% of folks who look at it will Not know decals are post war! Looks ok for display or re enactor.
Decals are wrong as is the liner. Are there markings on the inside of the rim?

The decals are obviously bad, but what's the red flag on the liner? I'm not a helmet expert by a long shot, but at first glance the liner looks o.k. to my uneducated eyes.
the liner looks good to me also unless I'm missing something obvious and I don't think so
The helmet is authentic. It's an original M35 no doubt. Liner looks to be original but may not be original to the helmet. Decals are a fake. There is foam underneath the helmet liner and a shoe lace as a liner string. Not a good sign. Not sure of the Japanese helmet cover too. I don't have a good vibe on that. Would love to see the Japanese helmet underneath. Hey, you loved your grandfather and he loved you so enjoy both helmets. Remember him and enjoy them. He wanted you to have them. IMHO would not mess with them.

My mistake on the liner. I just glanced at it and didn't notice the strap holders. Looked like a police liner style at first. Did you notice any markings? The first pic is what I thought yours was as opposed to the second.

Thanks for the responses all! So the shoe string is defiantly not original, i think it is a dress shoe lace! I cant find any markings, I think it may have been repainted.Where would I look for markings? The shield sticker flakes right off, i'm curious whats underneath. The foam is what my grandfather put under all his helmets, he displayed them on spray painted cans. Also it looks like there was a circle mark or remains of a sticker on the front of the helmet, about a half dollar size.

The Japanese helmet cover is defiantly a repo., and maybe the chin strap. The liner looks in good shape and is nicely padded. There is a metal star on the front of that one, and on the rear, underneath the lip is a Japanese character that looks like a "A" with the horizontal line extending past the two "arms" the finish on the helmet looks brushed on.
The Japanese Helmet cover has a stamp on the inside, rectangle with a bunch of characters. Still think it probably is a repo though.
Sounds like you know already the facts of the two helmets. To look for markings on the German helmet would be the back of the skirt or side of the helmet. I can't tell you anything if the Japanese helmet is real unless the cover is removed. The chin straps of the Japanese helmet I do have a problem with. For the Japanese helmet you can go to the Japanese forum for more information.

I would leave the decals on the helmet, it's a gift from your grandfather and should be left "as is" the same way you received it

maybe your grandfather put those decals on the helmet himself?

I like the tag that says "Estimated value 1968 $15.00". I bought the helmet in the photo mail order from a dealer for $6.50 in 1962.

The dealer was:
Dennis L. Walsch
1822 Newcastle Road
Grosse Point, Michigan

Is there anyone still alive who can remember him?

Regards,
Bill
