Went to the range Sunday (in a snowstorm).
Last Sunday (Dec. 21) I took my K98, M91/30, and my M44 for a trip to the range. Of course, it was snowing HARD, 20-30 mph left-to-right crosswind, and it was 15 degrees F.

Just average for up here in December.

The pic shows what I did at 100 yds with 5 rounds from each gun. The upper group is with the K98 equipped with a Scout mount that loosened up with each shot (LOCTITE next time). The right group is open sights with the M91/30. The lower left group is the M44, bayonet extended. The 8x57mm was milsurp of unknown type (150 gr. bullet), the 7.62x54r was some Polish light ball that I just received from AIM. I wasn't using a bench rest, just a picnic table and my elbones.

I just picked up an M91/59 today. I'll get out to the range with it as soon as possible.

BTW, the M44 made some NICE fireballs.......

Looks like a good range session, the Mauser and 91/30 are really shooting good.
I would try some HB in the M44.

Yep about the heavy ball. By time I remembered I had some (Bulgarian) in the truck console, I was on my way home to a warm couch.

What bugged me the most was trudging in snow that was over my kneecaps 200 yds at a time without snowshoes every time I wanted to get a good look at the targets.

Gotta plan a little better next time.

Our weather over here in WI is basically the same as yours. I go to the range every weekend. The coldest that I've ever been there is when it was -3F. I wasn't the only one crazy enough to go out in that weather either!!!

We're setting a record for the amount of snow in the month of December...not really a record that I enjoy being a participant in. The best part of shooting when it is cold out is that the barrels don't take long to cool down.

Let us know how your 91/59 performs. Remember, even if you have to walk 200 yards in knee deep snow, a bad day at the range always beats a good day at work

Mosins shoot better in the snow. The last time I took my favorite 91/30 out in winter, she shot her tightest groups ever, a tiny smidge over 1 3/4ths inches at 100 yards. On the 300 yard targets, everything was in a dinner plate sized area, except for the two called flyers that happened after I took a snowflake around the glasses.

But with the M44, when you touch off a round, it stops snowing, and starts raining....if the flash doesn't evaporate the raindrops too!

Very nice shooting for those conditions!

I went on Monday and had about the same conditions without the snow. I shot all reactive targets though.

What scoutmount do you have for your other rifle?
