I have come into possession of this rifle (and intend to sell it eventually) and need to know what it is. Moderators, if you feel I have posted in the wrong forum, please move. What can you tell me, I have seen a similar rifle identified as a dsm34, is this a training rifle? What is the value, after I clean the dust off of it, and history?

dsm 34

well, it is a "mauser" design. It's a german training rifle. Made by Weihraugh. They made them along with 12 other makers in germany during the pre-war years. It looks complete. but, It has alot of finish wear. I have a few of them and One more wouldnt hurt.. Let me know when you are ready to sell.. thx.

There is a trainer section here on gunboards..Down near the bottom of the main page.. .22 cal rifles and trainers its titled I think..

But, there is not much more to say about it.

Also, I just sent you a PM. thx.

It might be a KKW for klein kaliber wehrsportgewehr if it has a bayonet lug, rather than a DSM34. Your photos don't show that. The KKW was a 1939 design but I don't know which companies made it.

only mauser, walther, and bsw/gustloff made kkw's.. The only other trainer with a bayonet lug was made by jga.
This is a dsm-34. You can see the Duetchessportmodell on the side of the receiver. though it is blurry.

The rifles were made for the civlian market not any military contract. Most were used by para-military organizations such as the SA. Some also were used by the official military but exactly who obtained them and how is unclear, maybe unit purchases. In that sense thay are "training rifles" and that was their purpose. All these pro-gun posts you read about Hitler outlawing civilian ownership of guns are just not true! Never happened!
