I have a CVA 1851 Army (I think), in .44 cal. that I purchased used. I'm new to BP and am learning so I'm not quite certain of the models. I have two questions for the experts: 1. How can I determine the year of Mfg and manufacturer, and can someone describe the proper way to remove/insert the wedge? Thanks, Rip

Italian Proofhouse Datecodes are usually located on the right side of the frame. The more recent codes are usually enclosed in a rectangular box

Pound out the wedge from right to left with a hammer.

Best to use a rawhide, wooden or nylon mallet, or place a piece of wood over it & tap with a hammer. You should be able to remove the barrel by tapping out the wedge without removing the retaining screw - it only serves as a retainer.

I use to use the handle of a screwdriver, and do not insert further than the "hook" is in grip
