They fight in two world wars to maintain their "freedom" and this what they reduced to.60-70 years ago Britain was one of the most enthusiastic gun owning competitive shooting countries in the world. Now not so much.. Very sad..

I believe they put weights on extensions like that to counterbalance the muzzle, I've seen a guy shoot something similar with a SW.
And that, of course, might be one way toward rationalising the appalling disfigurement of an innocent handgun.

Actually it is there to make the thing 24" overall length, and therefore legal on mainland yUK where no 'short rifle' can be shorter than 24". So yes, 'must not be readily concealable' is one idea.

It is welded to the frame, and makes cleaning the revolver VERY difficult indeed, as anybody who has one can tell you.

Over the water in Northern Ireland, also part of the UK, you can still have any kind of handgun you like. Hell, there are even 3000 or so people authorised to carry a handgun for personal protection - the only place in yUK where there is any kind of CCW. Mind you, it's still one of the few places in the yUK where the nasties still put bombs under your car, or shoot you down as you go for a pizza.
