I have a VZ52, well used that has had a replacement stock (original) fitted, but the stock is completely unfinished. It has never had shellac applied or anything else.

My question - how do you get the black shading in the finger grooves etc when applying shellac and what grade or weight of shellac should I use?

In New Zealand the VZ52/57 is much more plentiful than the VZ52, I have a 52/57 also that is as new, it has grey painted bolt cover & hand guard metalwork - not black. I cleaned out the grease a few weeks ago & have fired about 60 rounds through it.

Its the same color in the fingergroove. It just may be a shadow you see in the picture.
