Purchased a new (to me) VZ-52 rifle that came with this stock 'staining', or what appears to be to me anyway. My question is: 'Is there a way to remove the 'staining' without causing damage (or least possible) to the stock underneath? If it was stained Im guessing it was was sanded or cleaned before but doesn't appear to be heavily sanded.
...or do I just leave it as is?
Non matching number gun but I love it all the same.

Thanks for any input on this!

Is it worth trying acetone on this or do you think I will end up causing more harm than good?

Thanks for any input.

If you must touch it (and I don't see why -- it looks fine whether original or not), is the dark finish on any part of the stock that is not normally visible, like under the top handguard piece or in the barrel channel? Experiment on those locations until you get whatever result you desire. Finish-stripper gel wiped with acetone after it does its thing for 10 minutes might work.
