The B-17G sure enough had a mid-air with something, I think. MIGHT have been a ground-handing accident, but i have a feeling it was a mid-air. Shows how tough the Flying Fortress was, i guess.

I am NOT interested in going into a river (or lake) in a tank, even with pontoons to stay above water attached.

The B-17 was justafiably famous for bringing the crews home. I believe that was the result of a direct flack hit. I have seen this photo before. The second os between 1870 and 1890 I believe.

Four more I found on a flash drive. I've got to get organized someday! SW

1) More close combat
2) Detail pic of field-expedient additional armor
3) Russian using captured panzer faust?
4) WW2 trench armor?

#1 One of my less pleasant memories is recovering an M113A1 from a hole just like that, complicated with about 3 in of ice. Wonder if it's the same hole :).
#8 Type 97 w/ 47mm gun. I'd guess Aleutians too.

The Mk IV in #6 probably had to use the extra track, because it didn't get issued the side plates. It has the extra turret ring "stand-off" plates and the Zimmeritt, but no indication it ever had the Schurzen plates.

Dukes right, the indicators are the following: 1. This vehicle has sloped sides and the BT-7's were slab-sided and 2. Look at the commander's station. The BT-7 doesn't have something this prominent.

It's a Chi-Ha. Here is another view showing the rear-facing MG and rear turret door. Apparently there were different types of turret for this model. I also thought it was a Russian type as it was in a photoset of same and looking back, it's the only Japanese type in that set. That's what I lke best about htis forum - there's always something to be learned. SW

1) Chi-Ha showing rear facing MG & door shown in pic above possibly in the Aleutians
2) Marder in nicer weather
3) Chi-Ha with different style turret
4) Mk IV without sideplates... or field-expedient armor made from track
