Pretty sure this is the Battleship Mutsu,a Nagato-class Battleship. She was laid down in 1918 and launched in 1920.

Keeping the skeeters off while you nap (or do things) can be real important.

Don't think M2 was deployed to the Philippines. In fact, only use for them in combat in American hands I can find was with USMC on Guadalcanal. Where it might well have encountered Japanese 47mm, and given that the armor basis for the M2 series was 1 inch, it would be penetrable at pretty well any range it could be hit by a 47mm.

    show summary
This is a Type 5 recoilless rifle. Most sources claim it didn't enter production. I came across one that said it did, but like the Type 4 Rocket Launcher (think 70mm panzerschrek/bazooka), all output was reserved for the defense of the Home Islands, and therefore never saw combat.

A Japanese equivalent of the Panzerfaust recoilless rifle. I do not think that this project came to fruition - overtaken by events. Best regards, JR.

Interesting. The "Venturi Tube" mechanism (used to reduce recoil in "recoilless" rifles/guns such as this, is much more clearly visible in this weapon than in the Panzerfaust. Best regards, JR.

The entire manufacturing run of this weapon was reserved for the defense of the home islands: it never saw combat use. Japanese imitation of the German panzerfaust.
