I have a 99 Jinsen 40th series that was reported as being a Nam bringback. Mum , mis-match Nagoya bolt, serial No. 3991, early features. The stock was original and staked, but the screws were corroded in place, the wood had huge gouges and apprared to have been stored wet for long time, just plain UGLY. It was interesting as it was numbered 1324 in narrow 3/8 inch high numbers on top of the barrel chamber, it was decent under the wood which was original and staked, early features and a full mum.

Josh,i seen a t-38 carbine fill mum at gunshow here in FL.with bring back papers from vietnam i think the paper was dated 1967, that's the first and only one that i have seen with bringback papers from vietnam.the guy said he picked it from someone working the show,i do not think the guy/gun dealer know what he had just picked up,but that he could make a quick buck because of the bringback papers from vietnam and getting the rifle for cheap.i asked if he would sell me the rifle he said no i need to do some checking on line before i sell it.

Viet capture carbine
This carbine was offered on auction a couple years back. I don't remember any details, but it has the 'look' and could have been captured in VN. Supposedly found in a tunnel, has modified Springfield A3 front sight, and tire tread buttplate!
Perhaps someone else can add info, or even owns it now.

These show up extremely rarely. I have two T38's with papers, but since I got them from mrnva (Matthew Siler) right about the time he was selling a lot of items with bad paper I'm not 100% sure of them.
I do have a couple of other Japanese "conversions" in my Vietnam collection. One I have posted before, in a jungle made teak stock, and totally legit. The other with the PSO scope I am not sure of - I've seen another in a collection also. It came with a pair of sandals, an NVA backpack, a placque to the vet, etc. but no papers.
I also have a Nambu pistol I've posted before, rechambered to 7.62X25.
I really like the one 03man shows - it looks like a beaut.

Don,I remember that carbine well, it was up for auction for weeks no one wanted to buy it.

I picked up no series T 38c at Knob Creek last year. Fellow said his friend who was a Viet Nam Vet asked him to bring it to the show and see what he could get for it. While looking at it he said his friend had it in the closet all these years. I could tell for the dust in the trigger guard.It has mm bolt,ground mum, a few butterfly patches in stock but in otherwise good shape.When I got to the campground and sat down with it I realized it had an AK/SKS,very worn,cleaning rod in it.This added a little more credibility I thought. Paid $160 and left the rod in.

Well, I didn't mention it with the other T38 and 99, but at the same "anteek" shop they had another T99. It was stated to be a Viet bringback, captured from a VC in '67. The name and address of the GI who brought it back was listed on the description.
So, I went back today and took a closer look and took some notes on it to see what anyone may think about picking it up. So here goes...
From what I learned and the sites I found on Arisaka Markings, it was a Nagoya, Series 7 rifle. The serial number is 453. It was all matching, however the "5" in 453 on the receiver has been stamped over an "8". The number on the nosecap is still 483 while both numbers on the bolt are 453. The bolt numbers were not overstamped.
It has a full mum, and had not been reworked. Cylindrical bolt knob. No drain holes. The back of the cocking piece was made of straight lines rather than a mum pattern. Didn't appear to have been apart as the bolts were still staked.
But, it was missing the middle band and the handguard. The upper band does not appear to have been taken off in a long, long time and the wear to the metal and wood was consistent with those parts having been off for a long time also.
The rest of the week is 50% of sale, any thoughts on a fair price, on this T99 in general? I know the VC used them, but don't know if there were any characteristics to identify them I kind of doubt it, but thought I would check with the experts.
