Nice blue.
I'm a little concerned about the burn in serrations on the butt plate tho".
Screws still staked?
Thanks for sharing.

I think the butt is fine. It’s unique for sure, but those cuts look to have been made before the nailing. It’s got the right thickness too for late 25ths. It may be just how that one was cut from stock. Just my guess. I like it.

Nothing's been burned. It's simply tool marks from the saw used to cut the wood.

Exactly
Looks very nice...... Nice mum!

Any chatter at the wrist?

No chatter
It looks like the stock may have been sanded? I’m not a type 99 expert but just comparing to my 25th series this rifle has no chatter and does not have the dark red finish

Here’s a pic of the chatter and finish on my all matching 25th series serial 42,xxx for reference. Again I don’t proclaim to be a type 99 expert, and there is a ton of variation on these late war rifles even within the same series

Agreed , my wrist area has chatter marks but really light, not like the ones pictured, my stock is all uniform in color ?
It's been sanded, which sadly seems to have happened at least half of the rifles with "chatter." It's certainly done better than most tho!

I have to agree, sanded and refinished, nicely done but still not original

Well guess I got took, hard to remember all the different anomalies on the Japanese rifles ,
need to be a little more careful!
Thanks

Don’t feel too bad about the stock, it’s still a nice looking rifle, and matching and mummed definitely counts for something. Collecting is a constant learning experience
