UPS is not the USPS.
UPS is private industry. They can do what they want within reason. Common carrier which operates under the ICC regulations. They have gotten too big to handle their mission anymore. This is how the socialists are going to kill the firearms industry and no, I do not have on a tin foil hat. Fed Ex already will not ship for a dealer that is not pre authorized with them and they have closed the pre authorization lists.
Destroying packages in transit? UPS is a common carrier. They will be buying a lot of (financial and possibly criminal) trouble if they are up to that.
Also they can not turn them over to law enforcement since the contents are fully legal. It would seem once they accept it they have two legal choices. Return it to sender or ship it to the correct destination.
Being a private carrier they can decide such things and still be legal. They can open any package and inspect the contents. If they don’t like the contents they can dispose of it as they like too. They do not need a search warrant or judge’s orders. They used to be notorious for opening up boxes, checking out the stuff, then poorly taping it up. The contents would spill out later and be lost. It was pretty common to get a broken empty box delivered or a opened box with only partial contents delivered. I remember one company sent their people to the Atlanta center to salvage what they could from the list items bins. The box was opened and the contents spilled out. They immediately toss the stuff into a list items bin to be auctioned off later.
Have they ever been challenged by a good legal team on these practices. People like Brownells and MidwayUSA should be big enough to have some legal wt.
Sometime Ideology trumps common sense.
