I have always wondered if the Russians did experiments on improving the accuracy of Mosin Nagant, I have a book written by A A Jurjev that has some tuning advice to the rifle in means of bedding and trigger tuning, but are there rifles that has been produced by the Russian Government similar to the Finnish 28-57 , 27-66 , 28-76 and TAK-85 for sport shooting or sniper rifles?

Or are we the only nation that actually was poor enough to try to update the Mosin to every demand the modern rifles had.

Since the diopter is off axis, my guess would be it is used with an offset front sight. This would make sense for a left-handed shooter with a dominant right eye.

The spirit of "Levsha" - the left-handed Tula gunsmith - obviously lives on!

MTs13 in 7.62 for 300 meter competition. Note the offset sights for a right handed shooter.

sight

Being a machinest, I can see the process of making a sight and solving all of the adjustment problems. The person making the sight probably didn't understand that the poor fireing pin spring had to overcome all of the resistance of that extra mass, and also be strong enough to fire the ctg. Not to mention the rotation of the safety! Intresting project anyaway. John the toolman.

In my opinion, there is no way, that this could be a precision sight. Safety block is the worst place to put a sight. The precision of the sight will be lost because of the backlash.

I think this could be somekind of testdevice, but I don´t have any slightest idea what it actually makes.

I agree on the Tool theory, it seems that the striker pin has been shortened so that it is not meant for shooting but rather aligning something, and it has way too much joints to be an accurate sighting device.

Nice rifle pictures, but does anyone have pictures of Russian target rifles based on the Mosin action?
