Winchester never dated their M1 rifle barrels

stock would have had the WRA GHD cartouche, large pad in trigger housing
and round WRA style firing pin

I haven’t studied M1s in many years, but remember that the rifle may have gone through a depot in France during the War and had new (at that time) parts installed. This would be normal and not change it from being “untouched” since the end of the War.

thanks to all for your return , sadly the stock is worn in the cartouche area so it's gone .

Any idea about the black stripe on the buttstock? I always though it was from one of the rubber buttpads being left in place too long, but not 100% sure.

I will start another thread with pictures of another very original Winchester with the same black stripe: WWII Winchester M1 Garand, black stripe on buttstock?

No dates on original WRA barrels. Only WRA barrels with dates were the 60s replacements.

Gas lock looks correct to me. Many of the Winchester parts had punch marks. Not sure if the gas locks did….need to look at mine. I can see the punch mark on the front sight and the hammer.
