I have an all matching 1915 BSA SMLE that I'm cleaning up from the cosmo dunk tank and I noticed that the replacement beech forearm that it picked up while in service doesnt have any serial number on it. It has all the brit markings and proofs just no serial number (no foreign markings, ishy screws, FR or FTR markings either). The forearm is identical to the original issue brit forearms that I have only missing a serial #. Were there some unnumbered brit forearms made just prior to the start of WW II, or right at the beginning, solely for replacement purposes for older SMLEs? Or unnumbered forearms given to unit armorers for repairs? Would make sense...
