G'day All.
Have just aquired a Uberti Hawken in .45Cal and was wondering if any of you good folk could sugest to me the right size cast ball to use in this rifle, I prefer Lee moulds if they make one for this Cal, also is there a Lee Minnie mould available for .45 Cal..?
Any replies greatly appreciated..

Go to www.ubertireplicas.com & look around. They have a contact link at the bottom of the page, but unfortunately it's to an Italian e-mail address & GOK if they would respond to you (or in English). Check to see who the importer is & often they can give you quicker info. so you don't have to do trial & error ball/patch fitting. Of course, as in days goneby, if the ball was too small, you'd just use a heavier patch ...

I just bought a couple of Pietta pistols & their website has some good downloads which included recommended bullet diameters.

Over the past 3 decades, Lee has managed to have a mould to fit numerous round balls & a minie ball that I needed.

You'll likely be using a patched ball, so see if you can get balls of a couple of different sizes (start with .452?). You want a tightly patched ball, but not so tight or large ball diameter that the rifling cuts thru the patch material.

As for Minie balls, look around at whatever info you can find to see if your rifling twist rate will properly stabilize it. Sure minie balls look cool, but they also eat up a lot of lead in a hurry, vs shooting round balls, & in a particular rifle, the roundball may give you better accuracy.

Interesting that your Eureka Rebellion Flag Avitar has striking historical parallels with the California Gold Rush of 1849.

The Greek slogan "I have found it" is also the official motto of the State of California.

Both are related to the pursuit of Gold and liberty.

My CVA lists a .45 as needing 0.440"RB with an 0.15" patch.
Unfortunately no listing for a conical or Minie.
Powder is listed as 50~80 gr of FFFg.

Lee .440 Round Ball mold, # 3690436

Midway lists it as their inventory# 768602

US $19.49

The .440 REAL Lee minie & traditional minie are just listed as .45 cal, with no actual diameter given.
