Type 99 Help

1017 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  WillRuss
Received a Type 99 from a veteran who was part of the occupation force. He told me when he brought it home the action worked but currently the bolt or safety do not operate. There is some movement in both but they do not function beyond that, The safety will push in but not rotate.
looking for some advice on what to look for or someone in the Chattanooga area that would know what to do.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board YB. Here is a website that will help you find out what arsenal and series you have.

If you have an early series, the bore will be chrome lined, later they weren't. Clean the bore as you would any rifle. I wipe down everything with rubbing alcohol to get the old grime and grease off.

If the stock has not been "messed with" (sanded, scraped or refinished with something), the original finish is Urishi. A type of lacquer made from the sumac plant. (There is an interesting story about Urishi on the Banzai website.) If it's the original finish, clean it, but leave it alone.

I wipe down all the metal parts with a product called Eezox. It protects the metal from rust.

Let us know what you have.
