was checking over my 53, and i noticed the import mark is marked 1944 russian anyone elses import marks technicly wrong. Also i like to make mine complete can i use a m38 or m44 cleaning rod and is there a difference, as in is it totaly fubar to use a 44 rod instead of finding a 53 or are they the exact same thing? someone put a m44 sling on it i was wondering is the value of that sling and the value of the 53 sling close enough that i could trade it in the marketplace or is the 53 worth more? i should just post these to one person on here lol but i like to here from everyone.

The cleaning rod is something discussed here recently. My opinion is that the M44 type cleaning rod is the correct type that left the factory. The 'T53 rod' that is popularly taken to be a T53 rod is an in service replacement with an SKS rod. Take whatever authority you want from that.

Not sure about the cleaning rod. But both my mausers, Yugo 24/47, and Turkish are both marked German. This is not right. Read on the Military Forum that the importer is more interested in getting the caliber right for liability reasons. Hope this helps

someone just told me an sks rod wont fit.
I had learned about Type 53 cleaning rods, and thought they were the original parts. When I got my Type 53 it had a M44 rod, so out of curiosity I got the rod from my Chinese Type 56 carbine (SKS) and tried it. They do fit. I agree with Captain Mainwaring that Type 53s were probably issued with M44 type cleaning rods. Since the Chinese were directly copying the M44, why go to the trouble of redesigning the cleaning rod? As rods were lost or broken, the Chinese replaced them with SKS rods because they were on hand, worked, and fit. Practical
