Thought you fellow collectors might like to have a look at these two. The first is an antique, 1897 Sestroryetsk, no Finnish SA marks. It has a good bore and nice mechanics. It also has the original sight. The second is an early Tula, 1893, again with no SA marks. Good bore and mechanics as well. Both are currently in Finnish stocks pending repair of their original Russian ones.

Oh wow. That 1897 is excellent! The original flat leaf rear sight? You don't see that everyday (if ever)!!

I have one such example. It's an 1896 Tula captured by the Austrians in WWI. Even has a stock with a wooden cross bolt and no sling eschueons.

What happened to the original stocks that they have to be repaired?

Thanks for sharing! It's pretty hard to find M91's that don't happen to have any Finnish property marks.

They had some fairly non-threatening stock cracks, which a judicious amount of carpenter's glue appears to be mending. When I bought these some time ago, there was also a complete barreled action of a Cossack rifle, also antique. Unfortunately, someone had sporterized it by cutting off about two inches of the barrel and adding a commercial sight; made me want to cry. It was beautiful otherwise, and I would have bought it if I could envision a way of bringing it back to its former glory.... :(

That's too bad about the Cossack.

I just noticed the 1893 also has a magazine with the original sling setup. Does the front barrel band happen to have the sling mount too? That would be a really awesome find, ha! I see there is a photo of the front barrel band of one of the rifles, but I can't tell which it is.
