Good Day,
I was fortunate when I was stationed in England that I found two decent BSA Martini rifles and brought them back to the US upon my return. I purchased a Martini International MkII and Model 12 (marked Society of Miniature Rifle Club) for target shooting. Both pieces are in good working order but the trigger on the Model 12 seems a bit heavy. Possibly a burr has developed and I need to smooth it out a bit.

While in the UK, I was with a friend one weekend and we stopped in a village antique fair on a Sunday. I saw this Norfolk game keepers (cottage) shotgun rack in the corner and didn't hesitate popping down the 50GBP asking price. Its not a common find and reminds me of a shooting era too long gone. I can't think of a better way to display them.

Best Regards,
Michael

Hi, great rifles and a very tasteful display, I work in Norfolk and never see bargains like that, although I like going to Holts Auctioneers at Wolferton. That’s by Sandringham House, one of the Queens holiday homes. Glad you had a good time in UK and have something to show for it. Regards.

Makes a real nice change to see guns on display - not allowed over here in yUK where Mr Short-sighted and I live........nor anywhere else in yUK either. Not even replicas.

I wouldn't think developing a heavy trigger on a Model 12 would be from a burr. But careful disassembly and examination (and cleaning and lube with a light grease with moly in it (Lubriplate made a good one and i think still does, but maybe one of the current synthetics, with moly would be good) as part of the reassembly might help. Worth a try, anyway, I would think. Do be sure you understand how the system comes apart and goes back together, of course - probably preaching to the choir when I say that.

The gun cabinet was a purchase that I knew i could not take full advantage of until I came back to the US but I'm glad i bought it. I remember when I installed my approved steel safe in the house I was renting (with the landlords approval). I had been told that the Firearms Officers would come in a try to darn near rip it off the wall. Mine was secured with 6 4" masonary bits :) He came to the house and barely looked at it before signing off on my ticket. Oh well, I knew it was never going anywhere. I'm glad I can bring them into the light now.

The game keepers rack was found at the community center fair in Brandon (just past RAF Lakenheath). I never did find another one in the remaining two years I was there.

Thank you for the on the Mod 12 Clyde. I'll keep that in mind before tackling the trigger issue.

Best Regards,
Michael

I won't have any Martini's with me....

We are headed to Medford the 27th of July to inter my wife's ashes, Florence the 28th to my Dad's for a reunion. Tentative plans are to go Port Orford the 29th so the kids can visit old friends and I can see a guy about a cannon. When your kids are in their 40's can you still call then kids?

But nothing going on Martini's.

Be nice to find a nice pair of rifles there like the one starting this thread.

That is some great information Fred. Thank you for the picture from the CSL catalouge. I saw another SMRC marked Martini about three months ago a a local show. However it had been sporterized and drilled and tapped a dozen different ways from Sunday. The $500 price tag didn't excite me either.

Best Always,
Michael
