Can anyone give me a ballpark price for an unmodified Turkish Model 1887 in decent shape? I have a chance to pick one up but I don't have any idea what the going price would be. I haven't seen the rifle, so I don't know whether it is all-matching or not.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Very scarce,1000 USd and up.I belive they were either like new or very worn. With the internet auctions the price can be beyond what many would think a rational price.

I paid $1,000. for my decent-shape-with-cracked-stock...but mismatched '87 long rifle TEN years ago! In Canada, you'll have perhaps a different market than in the USA, so you will have to make a decision pretty much on your own. However, I will say that the only M1887's that I have seen sell for small money (under $2,500), have been in auctions where nobody was watching. If you look in the Standard Catalog of Military Firearms, 5th edition, you will find that the M1887 Turkish Mauser in NRA Excellent condition is valued at $750. In well advertised auctions, the actual sale prices I've seen are 4 times $750.

John

John, did you get that from me? It is the only one I saw in my 10 years of serious collecting.

Jack
Hi Jack,
Welcome back! Great to see you again! Yes, this is the rifle I bought from you that came out of Yemen.

There have been more turning up, but still very, very few in the grand scheme of things. I have purchased two more over the past five years, a carbine and a long rifle with German instead of Turkish markings. I know of two others that were for sale as well....maybe more, but I'd have to check my records.
Best Regards,
John

What he's not telling you, Jack, is that his carbine is also serial #1! http://forums.gunboards.com/showthr...arbine-11-43-m-m-without-a-serial-number-quot

And I think I was standing there when those fellows brought Jack's M1887 into the show. First one I had ever seen.
