I have a ton of Mauser sight bases, spring, ramps, etc...
BUT I do not know what yours would look like.
Got pics of one?

Are you talking about the flat head screw located at the front of the sight body that "holds" the rear of the handguard down?

The missing screw is located at the front of the rear sight assembly.

It appears to attach directly to the barreled action; in a slot cut for handguard to fit over the rear sight.

Chasdev:
Screw arrived today;tnx again.
When I tried to install it, discovered that the old screw broke off, leaving the smaller, unthreaded part in the receiver.
Any idea how to remove old piece so I can install screw you sent.

If it's not too deep you may be able to push down on it with a pencil eraser and rotate counter clockwise.
If it's stuck then you may have to take it in for service.
Screws that break from being overtightened and have not bottomed out or were not stripping threads when they broke can usually be removed just by unscrewing them as they are not binding in the threads at all and can be loose, but hard to manipulate.
If the broken stub is deep in the hole, then try to find something that will fit inside the threads and again try to push down and rotate counter clockwise.
