Same is true for Blue Wonder. I had cleaned a pistol (my pet XD40 SubCompact) and my former boss said to try this in the bore, and see if it's as good as they say. The patch came out looking like I hadn't even cleaned the gun. Lots of good stuff out there. I'll have to try the foamy stuff, myself. If it's better than Blue Wonder, I gots to has it! ;P

On occasion I have used "Outers" brand "Foaming Bore Cleaner". It has justified its place in my cleaning box. The very last words on the back of the label are: "Made in Finland". Seems like at one time Outers and Gunslick were connected brands. DDR

I use this stuff pretty commonly, and I'm impressed with the copper and gunk it gets out of the bore.
For normal in between shooting cleaning, I still use Hoppes, but for a new rifle cleaning, I like the foam.

I've used various foarming bore cleaners, but they seem to take a long time to soak all the copper out of a badly fouled bore. The foam does do a great job on the powder residue and other crud, however.

Maybe I didn't leave it in long enough, but I wasn't impressed. So far the best thing I've found is good old Ed's Red.

A year or so ago, Walmart had some mismarked cans of the Foam. I bought several for around $4.95 each. I wish I had bought the entire carton! I have on hand, or at least used, almost everything on the market for bore cleaning.

It says "Hoppes Nitro Powder Solvent" on the bottle. It may remove a little copper, but doesn't have enough ammonia to remove it all. Hoppes lost it's sexy smell when they took out the Benzene. Sure it still smells nice, but it's not what it once was.

For copper removal, Sweet's 7.62 was the best. It REALLY works. Just don't leave it in the bore too long & keep it away from chrome.

Blue Wonder is a great surface rust remover. It wouldn't get out anything much better than Hoppes could.

M Pro7 works well, but the stuff seems to age rapidly & loses it's kick before I could finish up the bottle.

Then along comes the Foam. It does everything I expected it to. The wussy looking little 3 oz. can lasts quite a while, too.

Ok, exactly what do you do? Leave the bolt in and then spray down the barrel front until foam starts coming out? I'm interesting in buying some as I just bought a 91/59 from Aimsurplus and haven't gotten around to giving it a good first time cleaning.

Thanks...

Remove the bolt, spray foam from breech until it comes out the muzzle.

I place my rifles muzzle down afterwards.

Clean any rifle the best that you can take any different type of cleaner and use it on the "clean" rifle allowing it to soak and you will get more gunk of some variety out of it. Read my lips there are two different types of snake oil, expensive and not so expensive. But they remain a form of snake oil and generally an unecessary expense. Stick with what works for you and avoid all these extra expenses and the rifles will never know the difference! I worked 34 and 1/2 years as a lubrication specialist for Dupont we tested them all and used them all and even helped make them at times. I talked many times to big Al from AMS Oil and while his lubes have their place there are very few conditions or tasks that require anything other than good basic oils and cleaners. Keep that in mind and you will be richer and have a less complicated life! Bill

I use the Foul Out III system to clean really dirty rifles. I find it very capable in removing copper, rust and lead. There is a page somewhere on how to make your own very cheaply.

I like the idea of a simpler method, but I really cant see anything working better than foul out. To see the copper on the rod and then see the rust and what not just pour out is impressive.

BTW.. #9 is just one of those great smells that is a part of our hobby.

I have the Foul out III also. I use it when I first get a rifle. You can't believe the copper and rust it will pull out. After that I just use windex at the range and hoppes benchrest when I get home followed up with some CLP.

I frankly love to see people using all these expensive systems and synthetics and stuff. When they get done buying all this stuff I will be able to afford to buy the gun they can't afford! Makes sense to me! I do and have for many years used Balistol which if I let him in the shop and I do for company in the winter the neighbors puppy loves to lick off the excess. Oh by the way it is odorless and non-toxic also. He prefers the non-aerosol type for some reason? I have for years used a steel rod with a 50 year old signal generator to electricly clean bores if they resist my first line Hank's cheapest good bore cleaner. Why do I use that because me and Hank have drank a few beers together over the years and frankly I think it is Ed's Red in disguise! As you can see there is nothing but overall cheapness and pure logic to my cleaning methods developed over years of beer drinking with Hank and overall cheapness! Bill PS who found that avitar with the potatoes thing I think I like it! Besides everyone knows I am too computer iliterite to have done that!
