Well, wife and I took off on a drive there. Good three hour round trip. Found it and went in. Small display area with various guns and militaria. Only found 4 M96, 1 FSR, and one CG-63.
Finally corned one of the several people behind the counter. I told them I collect the Swedes and where I come from. Told them I knew they were a Board Sponsor. That I was interested in a CG63 or an all matching M96 or M38. The Lady behind counter asked what those were. She decided to ask one of the guys. He came out and said the only Swedish rifles they had were on those two racks. He said we don't have anymore than that. I told him, but you have many listed on your web page. Then he said do you have a gun number and I said no. So he told me he could not help me. Not only that, but another guy about 15 minutes later told me the same. But, at least he did tell me they do have other Swede rifles but if you come here you have to have a number off of our website.

I know they are a Sponsor, but they were rude to my wife and me. I came with about $600+ in twenty dollar bills to spend. Credit card available if needed also. They didn't want it. One of the guys said to my wife if you want a gun, use the net. So do not take a trip there to pick out and buy a rifle. They do not allow it. But, a certain # rifle from their sight they will bring out and show you. If it is not sold already.
A very disappointing day trip. Sorry for the rant.

SAMCO has a similar policy . They have a small one room showplace for a few of each example for sale . Pick one of them or go home . No going through the warehouse to pick what you want . They don't even describe a given rifle , you get what is sent if ordered over the phone . Glad I never made a trip to Florida for nothing !!!!!!!!!!!

Makes you wonder how they stay in business ?

that's a shame they are like that you would think selling rifles would be a high priority and that they would be willing to go above and beyond to help out a walk in, especially since you knew what you are looking for

These people could have sold one and possibly two nice ones today if they had wanted to. Guess they don't want any cash sales. But no worry, they will never ever get a dime from me. As a cash customer, I have the last thing to say about that situation.

Damn Steve I sure hate to hear that. On the phone I find them to be quite friendly. You know when I was up there in Iowa last November we kind of talked about Simpson's being about 45 minutes away from your place. Glad we went to the Rock Island Arsenal Museum instead. I might have gotten mad at them too and in that case I wouldn't have my new CG63.

How did this guy get in the back? I think I got the 1895 receiver CG63 this guy was talking about.

I'm surprised by your experience. Use to stop in a few times a year but it's been a couple years since I've
made the trip down there. Never had a problem with the staff and they were always helpful and friendly to
me. Always had access to the back rooms and basement to look at their stock.

Simpson's is an advertiser here. This thread ain't selling any rifles for them. Any chance of getting an answer from them about the shabby treatment this member got?

Now that is a good question Mike? They simply refused to let me look at any of the guns on their web sight. After first denying they even had anymore until I reminded them of their adds. No matter now. They won't sell me or the wife any thing now. Oh, I was going to surprise my wife and buy her a really nice CG-63 as a surprise. She likes my
FSR rifles with a diopter, but prefers as always to pick her own gun. She still does not know that was my whole reason for going there. I'll think of another way to do it, and Mike, you know I will. lol

Yeah, you have a way of coming up with gems. Now I feel guilty about buying Kathy's M96. :(

Not really. ;)

I cannot speak to your claim about them being rude because I was not there. However, what I do get out of this is that they were willing to show you any firearm you wanted if you had a number. But, if there was not a specific one you wanted to see, then you had to make do with what was in their showroom. I can understand them not allowing random people access to their warehouse to just browse. I would do the same. I ordered an item from them just this week over the phone. The salesperson gladly retrieved the item I was interested in and was willing to answer any questions I had. I ended up spending thousands of dollars on the spot. Couple their willingness to answer questions with the excellent photos they post online and they're golden in my book.

This guy got in the back. Cruffler got in the back???????

Pasted from their site: We have been located in our present showroom since 1994. The Amtrak train station is across the street from us (what a great excuse to take a train ride!) There are lots of firearms to browse through while you're here, including over 400 Lugers at any one time.

Sure sounds like you can browse through pretty much their whole collection. If they let you browse through the Luger collection surely they would let you look at the Swedish Mauser collectionn not just 5 or 10. I wouldn't board a train to see 10 Swedes. Now get to pick through 80 or 90, yup might do it.

I've bought a couple of things from them and if you think those are excellent pictures then I need my glasses checked. I do call and ask questions and seem to get the same, very helpful lady everytime. I'll let Steve answer about any "attitude" they might have gotten.

First of all they specifically invite folks into their store and state you can browse. They suggest you even take a train to go see them. Read their words right here at the top. No, they would not let me look at
any guns I considered of decent quality in the one little showroom. Notice it says even 400 Lugers? Hmmmm
We actually felt discriminated against because they did not let us view guns I wished to consider purchasing on the spot. They were more than direct to the point they would not allow us to look at any thing except the 6 Swedes in the show room out front. Now, that is not where the majority are at.

So, if a customer comes to the store and is not allowed to view as indicated on their sight, they best remove any invitation for any one to stop in. Of course since you state spending thousands with them, they probably would let you. Still discriminatory to me. Oh, their photos are pretty lousy to me for viewing any real detail. Another reason to visit there. Hey, their loss, not mine.

I'm always on their website looking at some cool rifles. Heck I was thinking of buying one of their Swiss rifles from them. It is too bad they would not let you look. If you make an advertisement to come look at our inventory and then deny people who travel to see it sounds like a poorly ran store. I hate businesses who treat customers like their the hindrance, if what you said is true.

I was at Simpson's last week. Someone from the store (from my experience it's never a salesman) has to escort the customer around in the back. This time I had to wait for a person to be free but it only took 15 or 20 minutes. I've never had an issue the dozen or so times i've been there. In order to purchase a firearm there you will need a FFL or C&R if you are from out of state.

The Luger room is simply amazing.

I had multiple dealings with them (over the phone) and never had an issue. I was not rushed, was given very descriptive information and had a salesperson on the phone with me with a rifle in hand describing to me what I wanted to know (had to give em inventory number from website, of course)...

I have purchased 8 firearms from them. I have not had a single issue. That said, when a company openly campaigns for customers to visit their facility I feel they have an obligation to that customer. Think about it, the customer takes their time, hours on the road to and from the location. The customer spends money for gas at the rate of 3-4 bucks a gallon to get there. The customer is in anticipation of an enjoyable experience to shop, and purchase firearms. The store HAS and obligation to meet that customer's needs. I believe that obligation far exceeds what mine would be on a phone call. I too have thought of driving 7 hrs each way just to shop there this summer. This gentleman's experience will certainly give me pause to do so. I'd be one pissed off customer if I did my part and they did not live up to their share of the responsibility. Fourteen hrs on the road should trump a phone call experience any day.
I am now rethinking my trip and this vendor for my future purchases.
Businesses should never forget for each unhappy customer lost it takes 7 new ones to replace them.;)

I've internet purchased several firearms from Simpson LTD and have been very satisfied with what I received. I really like the way they almost show room floor the firearms on their web-site with the zoom in picture features.

That said..... the OPs dealings with a face to face situation gives me pause to think of any future purchase. Ive recently been burned on a m39 that I purchased from Pat Burns which was listed as having a "bright, sharp, shiny" bore,... only to show up having a filthy bore which, once cleaned revealed pitting.

All lessons learned.
