Looking back as the OP....
Just a recollection from H.S. during this time in the 1980's and how I remember these DEVO videos on early MTV.
We had to take 1-year of swim classes [Beginner/Advanced Life Guard] to graduate H.S. Crazy eh? To think they would make something like that mandatory nowadays!
I got all A+'s in certs .. but I had the most A-hole teacher / coach ever! but I'll tell you what ..it save my life a few times. Glad I did have him as a teacher / coach!

When I hear and see these videos it brings me back to early '80's H.S. swim classes ..Weird DEVO connection.

Did anyone else have to take swimming for 1-year for H.S. graduation requirement?

no, but I did have to write an essay , no idea what on, in high school English
thinking it was 10th or 11th grade, and somehow I managed to tie some of the lyrics from Jocko Hom0 into the essay

got props from the teacher that graded it, (this would have been ~1979)

The deleted video had all the Devo references in cartoons, the only ones I could find elsewhere were the Family Guy and Futurama one

Do you remember on what subject ?? Just curious Lyman. 1979 was a crazy year.. High inflation! Our country was falling apart under Carter.. 🤔 hmmmmm...........

But yeah.. at my H.S. in the 1980's it was a requirement you did [1] year of swimming and life guard to graduate. I had it 1st hour too the entire year!

Another classic DEVO video ..way ahead of the times....
