Looks can be deceiving. Note the picture shows a bit of an angle, it can't be lined up directly over each grip, it's impossible.

I'm thinking the EG grip was always said to be the thinnest in the past. A measurement with a pair of micrometers would tell the story.

E.G. measures 1.095
Red* measures 1.083 (Slimmist... Slim Tim, but by the Slimmist of margins. Pun intended. :D )
Thanks for the suggestion Tim, I would think that many likes the E.G. for carry for it's slim profile as well as the color. :)

I guess the memory is the second thing to . . . . . . . what was I saying?

Thanks Timbo, perhaps it was the lack of the lanyard ring that made it the choice of most folks. I could have sworn it was because it was thinner however.

Well I obviously have access to both, and until I got my half-checkered/half smooth wood grips from Dennis M, I had EG grips on my carry gun because I thought they just "felt" better. Not necessarily thinner, just better.

BTW, the Dennis grips are indeed wider at their widest point than the Red Star/EG grips, but they don't FEEL any wider to my hand. Probably has to do with the rounded contour of the back-to-side transitions, compared to the more squared off shape of the issue grips. Whatever the reason, it's another example of ergonomics trumping measurements.

I can tell you that a Pearce beats the crap out of a factory grip on a hi-cap, but on a standard I don't have a clue (except that I have an extra grip I picked up in a parts deal, so if I get a standard Mak to keep my hi-cap company I'll have an extra grip for it :) )

Hummmm, Not so sure on factory grips? My measurements are all over the place.
Hard to measure the front to back, but have a feeling that has something to do with ‘how the grip feels’? Smaller front to back makes the grip ‘feel thin’, maybe?

Measured a few of mine. ‘Thinnest’ was a black EG (?), without a lanyard hole. It also has larger hatching compared to some. (See Photo)
Some measurements:
Thick X Wide (front to back)
1.090 X 1.823 EG without hole, No. 1 stamped where hole would be?
1.112 X 1.836 EG with hole
1.115 X 1.838 EG with hole

======================
1.091 X 1.843 Bulgie Red Star
1.111 X 1.844 Bulgie Red Star
1.094 X 1.890 Bulgie Red Star
1.100 X 1.855 Russian Red Star

Some EG’s are thicker than Red Stars. Not very consistent – molds must vary quite a bit.
