Thoughts on Talvisota Day
I think it would be more appropriate to remember the outbreak of the Winter War with contemplation and solemnity, as for the upcoming Pearl Harbor Day.
Something for contemplation: in the summer of 1939, Russian forces under Georgi Zhukov decisively defeated the Imperial Japanese Army in the battle of Khalkin Gol. Assured of the superiority of their armament, troops, and tactical doctrine in the face of a determined, well trained and disciplined Japanese army equipped with modern weapons, Stalin and his commanders must have looked upon Finland's armed forces as something hardly worthy of the Red Army.
