Hello folks -

Don't come in here often, cause it's so scary and you guys are mean. ;)

But, quite a while ago I posted on an early Series 7 that I found in an antique store for $80. It was missing the handguard and middle band. Other than that complete, untouched and mummed with a perfect bore, etc, etc...

Anyhow, finally added a correctly marked guard and middle band and here it is. With many thanks to those who helped with what I needed. Bit of a different color on the handguard.

Sorry for the quality of the photos, quess the old camera card is hurting.

- Regards! Mike

You have restored a scarce early 7th, nice work.

Now you must sell it to me!

Hello Mike,

Boy I remember that rifle. I'll say what Rob is going to say. "you have to sell that one to me right away" They are extremely few in numbers in any condition. I lucked out after about a 4 year search and found the other end of the series #94911 this would be one of the first of the substitute style rifles with only about 6000 made.
The early rifles in the 7th series number about up to 1000 like yours. That rifle is very rare indeed.I have three rifles in the 7th series all different. That one eludes me at the present time.
You are lucky to have that specimen (the only one I've ever seen)

Is that a "standard length" rear sight I spy? It's too good for 03hombre and I'm too old to "need" it. Since it's a Nagoya trade it to CAmutt for a new Miata.

beautiful find...thats the series 7 varient we all need...wonderful find...we're only mean to each other ,LOL...you are a very lucky guy.
Thanks Guys. I really appreciated the help in what the correct 'restoration' parts were. The handguard actually matches the lower butt section quite well.

Yeah..., I guess you're not all that mean. Maybe it was the Mauser crowd.

Hello Adogs :
Watcha u mean Willis ? about them foggy Sakae 31 jug collectors ?. Drinking out of dainty saki cups is an art ( or is it a f_rt ! a very flatulent subject I might add ), real he men drink out of cylinder head sized jugs. One can sip a little shochu in a sake cup but if you are going to drink ice tea then a 64 ouncer or an R-2800 jug will do, yes even an ole Harley jug will get you by.

No. Only about 1k mage with the tall non AA rear sight like a high 6th series. Probably as rare as the 12th series if you want to crunch production figures. I once owned #1474 and it had the short adjustable rear sight like most 7th series do. So its belived that the tall rear sight versions number less than 1K.

Apparently the early ones had the long rear sight and transition features. The majority of 7's have the short "carbine" style rear sight with a couple different safety knobs (knurled, grooved and welded). The last 6000 or so were the last ditch variey with the short handguard, wood buttplate and fixed rear sight. I happen to have one of these with a sewn on late canvas sling. It must have been issued but shows very little wear except a little to the wood buttplate. Wish I knew where it was picked up at.

the majority of series 7 rifles had a rear sight found only in that series ,only the very tiny number of the first 7's made had the sight like yours..incredible find for a varient collector. Of course like rob says "oh its just like a late series 6 except for that one tiny kanji" which is technically correct, tho its like saying Rosie o'donnel and Danica McCellar "have the same basic features"...Hes from Kalifornia so yuh just have to excuse him fer being a bit off.

There shouldn't be any knurled safetys in the 7th series. The bolt handle, however, did change from being machined to just a cast handle. The 6th & 7th series are still among my favorites!

Dave, I resemble that remark and it's Commiefornia to you! ;)

Hey Dogs, which one of these cups were you wanting me to send you again?
I think I have this sake cup thing figgured out. It's something in your collection that your wife or, significant other, can look at and say "oh, isn't that pretty". Comon, admit it! ;)
I guess it's better than bringing "Beanie Babys" home to her from a gun show.

I was not aware of the non-knurled in a 7th. Good to know that!

Yes, you are right on that. When I got interested in the cups, she thought they were pretty so it was easy to buy them. Now the guns on the other hand are different. She thinks, and says, they are all "junk!" But I getz them anyway. ;)
