sorry to keep posting random questions, but today I saw a type 38 (pretty sure) with the kokura symbol overlapped on top of the mum. I ahve never seen this before. Is that common?
fairly common. it means the rifle was taken out of service and sent to another country or used for training purposes in Japan. also may have a small mark just under the mum and on top of the 3-8-type markings which would indicate it was used as a training rifle.
