Bought at local gunshow today, Im more of a "gun" guy, what did I get? Its missing some parts, the top of scabbard and the cap at the bottom, any way to replace these? Whats the value? (Not for sale) Paid $225.00 TIA. paul s

The first photo is of the date. Showa 18th year 5th month ? day (May, 1943)
For that price, I'm sure you scored!

At 225 you did well. The missing components can be acquired off Ebay. The blade looks like it's been hit with steel wool or sandpaper. Could you post a better shot of the blade and, more importantly, the signature [ the two characters above the peg hole] Jim

Shame on you, thats a steal, not in the holiday spirit I might add. You are lucky buyer of a "Yasukuni Jinga Sword" made by "Yasunori" . I have a few Yasukuni blades myself, very sought after among Japanese sword collectors especially of gendai blades (more recent handforged blades). The sword is in bad need of polish, and the tang could be in little better condition, but indeed a rare find. If you want to sell it let me know.
