Some people call them 06/24 but they are really a model 06 Bern. Some of the collectors get a bit snippy when they are called 06/24 because production started somewhere around 1918 and finished up in 1931 or 32. Due to WWI the Swiss couldn't get the pistols they'd ordered from DWM they basically copied the DWM 1906 pattern with a few modifications like the borders on the grips and different finish. They are marked Waffenfabrik Bern to show they were made by the State Arsenal in Bern. There are some luger forums on the net but I don't have addresses handy.
What are you looking to get out of the rig?

I was involved in a discussion of these pistols on a Luger specific site recently. While I didnt bother to make special note, seems like the discussion had settled somewhat on 1920 should be correct rather than 06/24. The above mentioned late teen dates may be just as valid....not for me to say.

However, you will have to use whatever description your pool of buyers recognizes. Really need set of pictures.

Re: matching mag. I have 2 of these, and neither has a numbered magazine, have looked at many over the years & cant ever remember seeing a wood bottom Swiss mfg mag w/serial number. The wooden bottom of these mags are a bit distinctive in their 'machining'......but I have learned to 'never-say-never'......!!!.

There are many, many Swiss Lugers in this country. I see several in similar description as above for sale at every OGCA show I attend. Last discussion I had there w/Luger dealer said $2200., gun only. Another dealer has several w/holsters.........I dont know his prices.

Funny story about Swiss Lugers. I was visiting a friend at the Presidio Army Museum and we went to customs to claim some Swiss lugers they had confiscated. Someone had tried sneaking them into the country. The magazines were rather heavy. The guy had removed the springs and stuffed the magazines with spare parts. The Smithsonian decided they wanted them and they had more clout, BUT we kept all the spare parts! LOL

Oh, and when we picked them up, the guy at customs wanted to weld them up! Said he would just weld them on one side. Needless to say his request was DECLINED. The guns were absolutely MINT!

You might try looking at Simpsons website for pricing. $3k might go with a mint pistol rig that has some history/provenance. Its a bit high for a normal 06 Bern setup. I think I paid about $2200 for my last one. It was a later manufacture with 2 numbered mags and a holster. You just need to decide if you really want to sell or just want to brag. On the other hand you can put whatever price you want on it and see what happens. Prices can always come down but its hard to raise them. If you can sell it for an outlandish price its good for you and means the market is ready for all of ours to jump in price too. The market decides the prices more than we do.

Even 3K is little money compared to the current prices in Switzerland now, that gun is getting worth more every day, it's not some mass produced German war Luger, there were only some 15.100 made of these 06/24's till 1933 and to me they are the nicest specimens of real Swiss W+F made Lugers although the best quality ones were the 06/29's that were made till 1946.

Swiss 06/24 Rig

Here is my 99% Swiss 06/24 rig. I wouldn't sell/trade it unless someone came up with a Swiss 7.5 Mondragon. IIRC the Swiss Luger with the plastic grips is a 1929 not an 06/24. It looks just like my 1929.

Just curious why you think the 06/29 is the best quality Swiss Luger. Is that the same as the 1929 model pictured in post #11?

The 06/29 is the 1929 model and as for best quality I would have argued that til I had one myself. They Swiss found ways to improve the Luger and also to reduce the cost....though not by much. My 06/29 has an outstanding trigger which is something you don't often hear about Lugers. They tend to have creepy crappy triggers. My 06 Bern has a decent trigger but not nearly as nice as the 06/29. Both are great shooters however and I'd be happy with either or. The 06/29 changed the shape of the front of the grip and it looks odd but feels great. They increased the size of the grip safety on the back of the grip and it feels better for that. They got rid of the different finishes used on prior production and blued all the parts that were previously "straw" or molten salt blued like the trigger, safety lever and takedown lever. They also got rid of the knurling on the toggle knobs and takedown lever and the grooves on the safety lever. You may also note that the front end of the upper receiver is round for a short distance back from the barrel flange. All in all I think the 06 Bern pistols are the best looking and really like the border on the grips. The 06/29 looks odd and not quite so pretty but it handles very well and is very well made.
