Cleaning out my grandpa's house after he passed away I found a rifle. I'm pretty sure it's a Swedish mauser, but other than that I'm lost. In front of the bolt it has Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori 1903, above that there's a crown w/ a "C". Next to that it says K.B. 133055 (S/N?), 055 is marked on several other places. However, the front and rear sights seem to be in much better shape than the rest of the rifle and don't seem to match. The rifle is 36 3/4 inches and the barrel is 18 3/8 inches from start of breech to end of barrel. Any help in figuring out the exacts of this rifle will be appreciated.
I think it may have been "customized" years ago.

Yep, sounds like it was sporterized. The serial number makes it a m/96 rifle and should have a 29" barrel. The m/94 carbines in 1903 were in the serial number range of 20,000 or so (rough estimate). The K.B. are the military inspector's initials and are not part of the serial number, which is 133055.

There's not much else to tell you. It has no value as a collectable and since this forum is dedicated to as-issued/untouched/unaltered Swedish military firearms we tend to toss into the cold icy street those who come bearing desecrated relics.

Sorry you lost your grampa. Grampa's are cool people. I know this because I'm an Opa which is a Dutchified grampa. Since this desecrated rifle isn't yours but was your late grampa's we won't throw you so hard into the cold icy street for bringing such a thing into our midst. If there's anything else you need feel free to email me privately through the forum email system and I'll do what I can for you.
