Welcome to the Forum ! The date on the receiver is usually when it was manufactured . The m/96 had a 29" barrel , although roughly 55,xxx m/96's were shortened to the m/38 length of 23.5" . Your serial number falls in the Mauser 1900 serial range . J.V. ( Jacques Virgin ) was the inspector at the Carl Gustaf Rifle Factory from 1 Oct. 1905 to 31 Sept. 1911 . Mauser made 40,000 m/96 rifles for Sweden in 1899/1900 which were inside the Carl Gustaf serial range of approximately 19,xxx to 59,xxx . Mauser also made 5,000 m/96's for the FSR , civilian shooting organization , all dated 1900 & numbered 1 - 5000 . We need more info on your rifle ? Photos would be helpful .

Interrupt anytime Buddy 48. Something isn't right here Swede. Buddy says it's a Carl Gustafs m/96 but the serial number he stated falls into the Oberndorf range. What's the date on top of the receiver Buddy?

Perhaps with that serial number and inspector stamp, J.V., could this be an m/94 receiver?

Replacement receiver?
Buddy has a 1907 m/94?
Pictures...

Yes , he has not given us enough info to tell what he has . He does not mention the model either . Of course , he may know little or nothing about what he bought or whether it is really a rifle or carbine ?

Thanks so much for the info...I'll attach photos...it looks a lot like a CG 63...has no plate on the butt...different wood styling, etc. Photos to come...

Many CG63's were made from m/94 carbines . That would explain your serial range . The m/94 and m/96 had separate serial ranges . Both start at #1 . About 113xxx carbines made and about 517xxx rifles made . The Swedish military had their own CG63's in either 6.5x55 ( m/6 ) or 7.62 NATO ( m/7 ) . These had the bore disc cutout . Very rare to find one of these .

Typical sporterized m/94. What did you pay for it, hopefully not too much.

My CG is serial #896 and dated 1898. Just thought I'd throw that in. Also re-arsenalled on or around 1938, and then forgotten.

Shoots quite well, though............two five-shot groups from 100m with handloads...
