Just how Important a roll do the flutes play in the shell extraction process?

Chamber neck flutes give less contact area (easier release) and with some gas blow-by the extraction process is helped. Heckler & Koch uses them too, so it must be based in sound engineering. DDR

Dirty flutes

When I first got my SVT it would fail to eject once and a while. When I learned that there were supposed to be flutes in the neck and shoulder area of the chamber, I looked in there with a mirror and light, and the flutes were not visable.They were full of junk. I cleaned them out, and what a difference.......Now it ejects every time, and is a blast to shoot. I had to use a brass brush with a "in and out" motion rather than round and round to clean the flutes out. So, they are doing their job now as intended!
