Have had a refurbeb STV-40 since about 1993 and have had a good number of shooting sessions with it. One that seems unusual to me is that since I have had it, almost all of the shellac refinish has worn off the fore end, hand guard and around the grip. No- I've never touched it with sand paper. Is shellac that flimsey? Has anybody had similar experience? Thanks, Dub

Yes. While shellac was the standard finish what is on the rifle now is postwar and is cheaper than what was used when the rifle was made. This postwar shellac will chip and peal over time. Just a fact of life I guess.
