A friend of mine has a tula 1940 SVT-40 what is non imported and possibly a vet bringback. Anyway was looking it over and noticed that it would not accept a regular 7.62x54r round, it was alittle too long you could not shut the slide down. Now my question is there any what where rechambered or what used a different round? Thanks!

Not to my knowledge but I could be wrong. Check the chamber area closely for a piece of broken off case.

Look to see that the op rod is not protruding from the gas housing on the rear of the receiver bridge.

some from Canada were rechambered in 303 British
I think the Canada .303's were all sporter'd, and would be easy to ID. I agree with you and everyone else, broken case or a demilled chamber.

Well if it will not accept a 7.62x54R, it definately wont close on the 7.7x58R AKA .303 British
