Given some of the posts I have seen on survival forums, I wouldn't be suprised if he has a fan club.

Survivalist my ASS! He is just common thief! If he was in New York he would be an "occupier"
To the typical media types that is pretty much the category we all fit into.

The guy must be off his rocker. A dilusional nut-bar loner. If I had a cabin up there and had the time to live there for a whole year and had him break into my place with me there...well, it would be game over for him!

Suggesting that this guy has any similarity to the occupiers is a pretty long stretch. Let's keep on topic and watch the language!

I confess , it is what first came to mind when the article mentioned he went "potty" ( family friendly term ) in inappropiate places...

BC1, he's pretty good to have lived there and evaded for 5 years. "IF" you were there living in your cabin yearround, he'd probably spot you before you saw him. he could see your smoking chimney, wait for you to come out for firewood, then bop you over the head, on and on. lots of ways to take you, unless you had an edge, a dog or some kind of early warning system. it's sad he has to trash everyones cabin. i have one in the mountains somewhere, haven't been there in over a year. i hope if someone needs something really bad, they'll just take what they need and leave the place tidy.:) shut the door when they leave so the bears and bigfoots won't trash the place.

Good point falm16, but I have 2 larger dogs but you never know, a crafty guy like him could harm me. What a situation those owners are in, best thing would be for him to have an accident in the bush or fall through ice on a partially frozen lake or have a medical condition that killed him, etc. Here in BC quite a while ago had a similar man who was doing the same thing breaking into cabins and stealing stuff. He was eventually caught.

they'll catch this guy too, hopefully before he hurts someone. some people would go slap crazy living in the woods alone for 5 years, i think i could handle it. if i ever get to go live in my cabin full time, i will have a good dog.

I'll stick with my Lee Enfield #4/Mk1 Parker Hale sporter, thank you. 10 rounds of 150 grain. Read some bad things about the Rem 600/660 lately concerning recalls. K-bar, for sure. I have the D2 steel model. Tough, tough knife. I don't know about the derogatory statements part of your comments, some dude who breaks into cabins and rips people off is a scum bag any way you look at it.

I think I know the area where he is, it's a large, large, and very high platau. There are some areas where folks have bought land and built cabins from tiny log ones to huge mansions, (many for the last days as a retreat) but there is something like 6 feet of snow in the winter and nobody clears those gravel roads. So it's really easy to rob cabins if you are holed up there anyway. Nobody else is around.

I can see if a person is very desperate to survive and breaks into a cabin up there, but leaves a note or someting telling the owner he will re-imburse them for products taken in a case of survival. Leaving a big mess and stealing stuff and taking a crap in a pan for someone to find is just plain sick. This guy must be a sociopath. Another thing, I would never leave firearms or ammunition in my cabin if I were gone for the winter or anytime I was not there. Food stuffs, yes of course especially canned goods. Toilet paper and other sundries, yes, but guns...NO WAY JOSE!
