My EG Mak came with the stock dark brown grips. I believe they are "bakalite"(?). Kind of a hard plastic. The grips are pretty scuffed up and look like scata. Any suggestions re: how to clean and can they be resurrected?
The ones I purchased from Makarov.com were pretty filthy and really scuffed up. I used Cape Cod cloth on them, it worked really quite well. They came out much better than I anticpated. Normally I use metal polish on leather for polishing these types of things but with the checkering it just did not work well where the Cape Cod cloth really did. Just keep working it, it takes some hand work but the effort is worth it. I think I did mne a 3 or 4 times till I was satisfied with it.
Its not perfect looking but it looks pretty good now. Rather like the well cared for but used and somewhat worn finish (holster wear) of the rest of the gun.
