I probably won't have the best tip and you've perhaps tried it anyway..... I keep one of these hand impact drivers around close. Often I'll put a screwdriver tip in it and strike the impact tool a few sharp raps. Both to tighten and loosen as that sometimes breakes things loose. But then, .. you already said the screw slot was bad.
