I picked up a Correct HRA Garand at CMP and sent the stock, dripping in cosmoline to larry at www.reissuedsurplusrifles. Look at the before (right hand pciture) and after (left). NO SANDING. He stripped the stock of cosmoline to the original patina (See those pictures on his website( PICTURE NOW ATTACHED) ("JohnG Garand") and then found the recipe for the finish that would have been USGI in 1955 (Reciever year).

I think this is a great option compared to refinishing which would change the stock from its true nature as a military rifle. Can't wait to get it back and reassemble the rifle:D
