Hey guy's, i bought this thing 5 years ago and finally really started looking at it. It has matching numbers on the lower, bolt and carrier,(951xx) but the barrel is slightly earlier from what i can find.(888xx)
The barrel is marked KAL with the some proofs as well.
Were these barrels serialled to the rifle when manufactured or when assembled to a rifle? I was curious if that's just a build error or if it's not the original barrel for it.
Either way it's a Steyr barrel which is a good thing. A friend in Idaho had a pair of them built by Idaho Armament and sold me this one fresh from the build. I have only put a 100 rds through it due to my head position with the original stock...It was not comfortable for me.
I added a DSA "X" stock which really helped out in that dept and now i'm getting more interested in it. I was going to trade it off, but after digging around on the net i think i'll keep it.
Thanks!

I don't know how they work, i have a few of them but have never used one. I only put a 100 rds through the rifle before it was buried in the safe.

Here's mine that I built when the STG58 kits first came in. I built it on a DSA receiver and bought their unfinished walnut stock and grip to refinish in walnut.

That deer hide hangin on the door knob?
Nope, it's my dove hunting vest. Yep, I'd be pissed with a big ol' scratch on it, but, it's target only. I have several other .308's that aren't as pretty.

Try the DSA-made Belgian style bipod cut forend as well they are a whole lot more comfortable with the bipod legs either up or down than the sharp-edged originals. Keep the original metal ones for resale value.

The barrel would've matched originally, when the gun was a select fire military weapon. During the demil and shipment, things got switched around. If it shoots well, enjoy it. People seem to care less about matching numbers on FALs than on other rifles, so I'd say you're fine.
